Information for Beginners and International Participants

A recent blog post written by Travis Finneran talked about boffering taking place in Switzerland

Like last year, we have decided to pay special attention to newcomers to the sport and those coming from abroad. In this press release, we will open up Sotahuuto 2024 a little bit for beginners and those coming to the event from outside Finland. Please note that, like the rest of the site, you can change the language of the page from Finnish to English and back in the box at the bottom right corner.

FOR BEGINNERS

To attract new participants and keep the hobby alive, Sotahuuto 2024 offers a discount for new players. The exact amount of the discount will be announced in May when the registration opens.

To help beginners navigate the event, Sotahuuto's website includes a glossary of terms ("Sotahuuto ABC", in finnish only) that may be unfamiliar to new players.

The age limit for Sotahuuto is 15 years old. Information for minors and their guardians about boffering, participating in Sotahuuto, and the event's safety can be found here

Don't have a team yet? Gather your friends and register as a new team! This page offers tips on forming a new team. Our team mentors Juha-Matti Marjamaa and Eetu Sipilä will be available to support new and aspiring teams. Existing teams can also benefit from the team mentors.

If forming a new team seems daunting, you can also join an existing team! Ask your local training group leader about participating in Sotahuuto or check our website to see which teams are looking for new members on our site.

FOR INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPANTS

Sotahuuto 2024 is free for participants from outside Finland. This does not include food, which must be purchased separately.

A separate English-language briefing will be held on the Friday of the event, covering the event rules and Finnish boffering etiquette.

The project to translate the sotahuuto.fi website into English is progressing well, and most of the content is available in both languages.

TEAM STRENGTH ESTIMATES

The organizers have contacted teams with questionnaires about their estimated strengths for Sotahuuto. These estimates will be used as a basis for the preliminary divisions. Please respond as soon as possible! If you are the contact person for your team and have not received the questionnaire, please contact the organizers.

UPCOMING TIMETABLE

Registration for Sotahuuto opens in May and closes in June. After that, registration will be more expensive and it will no longer be possible to purchase event food.

The volunteer application is open, although the process is in finnish only. The link provides information about the benefits for volunteers and descriptions of the tasks during the even.

Miekkamatka 2024training challenge is underway and continues until July 11, 2024. The boff player who has collected the most entries from different trainings by Thursday of Sotahuuto week will win a Miekkamatka 2024 t-shirt!

The organizers will answer all your questions at jarjestajat@sotahuuto.fi.
